Classic Supertrend: ATR-based bands that flip direction with the trend — green line under price in an uptrend, red above in a downtrend. - Flip points are marked with triangles and alert on both sides. - Raise the factor for fewer, longer trends; lower it for faster flips. - Works on any market; a 3.0x factor on the daily is the standard starting point.
Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) is the running sum of volume signed by each bar's direction — the closest single-line approximation of net buy vs sell flow when only OHLCV is available. - Rising CVD = aggressive buyers winning the auction. - Falling CVD = aggressive sellers winning; divergences against price are a common reversal cue.
PVI with Moving Average adds a smoothed baseline on top of the Positive Volume Index — the standard 'above MA = trend up' read for the volume axis. - PVI above its own MA = crowd participation supporting the move. - PVI below its own MA = crowd participation fading; treat rallies cautiously.
Twiggs Money Flow is the smoothed A/D ratio — Colin Twiggs' answer to Chaikin MF with a 21-period default that emphasises the bigger picture. - Above zero = accumulation holding; below = distribution. - A break of the zero line often coincides with the larger trend change.
Price Volume Trend (PVT) is the cumulative sum of volume × %change — similar to OBV but weights each bar's volume by the percent change in price. - Rising PVT = price moves being confirmed by ongoing participation. - Falling PVT while price rises = warning that the rally is on thin volume.
Positive Volume Index (PVI) updates only on up-volume days — emphasises the retail / crowd footprint when volume expands. - Pair with NVI: PVI up + NVI flat = healthy advance; PVI flat + NVI up = quiet accumulation. - The pair is the original 'volume confirms price' filter from the 1970s.
Negative Volume Index (NVI) updates only on down-volume days — emphasises the 'smart money' footprint when volume contracts. - A long-term NVI moving average crossing its own short-term MA is a classic Wyckoff accumulation signal. - Use it as a quiet confirmation filter rather than a primary trigger.
Accumulation/Distribution Line cumulatively weights volume by where the close sits inside the bar's range — a classic A/D flow tracker. - Rising A/D = buyers absorbing supply; falling = sellers dumping. - Divergences between A/D and price often precede the actual turn.
On-Balance Volume (OBV) is the running total of volume signed by the bar's direction — a cumulative tape that leads price on breakouts. - Rising OBV + flat price = accumulation; falling OBV + flat price = distribution. - Divergences between OBV and price are the classic smart-money signal.
Volatility Stop is a self-correcting ATR trail: the stop ratchets in the direction of the trend and resets when the trend flips. - Acts as a regime marker — the line flipping below price = trend up, flipping above = trend down. - Tighter than Chandelier because it uses the ratchet rather than the raw rolling high.
ATR Bands wrap a smoothed moving average with parallel ATR envelopes — a cleaner ride channel than Keltner that uses fixed ATR rather than the KC rolling formula. - Outer rails are common stop and target levels. - Slope of the mid line tells you the trend direction.
Chandelier Exit plots a trailing stop anchored at the rolling high/low adjusted for ATR — originally designed to let winners run. - Long stop = rolling high minus mult × ATR; flip when price closes below the prior stop. - Combine with a trend filter (above/below a slow MA) for the classic swing entry.
Donchian Channel is the classic turtle-trader band: upper rail = highest high of the lookback, lower rail = lowest low. - Breakouts above/below the rails are the original trend entries. - A flat channel (rails pinned) = range regime; ride the rails back to the middle.
Keltner Channel uses an EMA of the typical price plus/minus an ATR envelope — smoother than Bollinger and a common trend filter. - Price above the upper rail = trend up; below the lower rail = trend down. - Channel width tracks ride regime; tight KC + BB squeeze = coiled spring.
Vortex Oscillator plots +VI and -VI — sums of upward vs downward range moves normalised by true range. When +VI crosses -VI up, the trend is bullish; the opposite for bearish. - Crossover of the two VIs is the entry signal. - Raise Length for steadier trend calls. - Pair with an ADX filter to confirm trend strength.
MACD Histogram alone — the gap between MACD and its signal line, plotted as columns. Bar colour flips are the momentum-shift alerts. - Positive columns = bullish momentum building. - Shrinking bars = momentum weakening. - Pair with MACD/Signal for full context.
Efficiency Ratio is Kaufman's ratio of net price movement to total path. 100 = perfectly straight, 0 = pure noise. - Above 30 = trending, below 30 = chop. - Raise Length for steadier readings. - Filter all your other systems by it — only take signals when ER 30.
Bear Power is the difference between the period low and an EMA of the close. Negative = bears pushed price below the average close. - Pair with Bull Power for the full Elder Ray setup. - Bear Power falling while Bull Power rises = weakening downtrend. - Plot on the price pane alongside candles.

Double Smoothed EMA (DSEMA) is two EMAs back-to-back with a lag-cancelling combination. Tighter than a plain EMA at the same length, simpler than DEMA/TEMA. - Use as the fast leg in a crossover with a slower MA. - Raise N to slow the line, lower it for tighter turns. - Pairs well with an ADX 25 filter.
Adaptive Laguerre Filter is John Ehlers' Laguerre-inspired cascade — four cascading IIR filters with a gamma decay factor blend into a single smooth, low-lag line. The crossover with the trigger is a popular signal. - Default gamma = 0.8 is widely used; raise toward 1 for smoother output. - Crossover of price vs Laguerre is the canonical entry signal. - Excellent on noisy intraday data and crypto perpetual futures.
Modular Filter is the simplest single-pole low-pass smoother: each bar is the previous output plus half the change from price. Cute for showing how a moving-average kernel works — and surprisingly useful on highly smoothed inputs. - Cutoff is fixed; treat it as a learning toy or sanity baseline. - Great for visualizing the gap-filler problem an EMA solves. - Not recommended for production signals.
Fractal Adaptive Moving Average (FRAMA) estimates the local Hurst exponent via the ratio of half-window to full-window ranges and sets an EMA smoothing constant from it. Very smooth in trends, very flat in ranges. - Use a even Length (default 16) so half/quarter ranges are integers. - Best on noisy intraday charts and on assets with frequent regime shifts. - Excellent as a slow leg in a crossover system.
