Volume Oscillator expresses the difference between short and long volume MAs as a percentage of the long MA — a clean volume momentum gauge. - Positive = short-term volume running hotter than the long-term baseline. - Negative = short-term volume cooling; watch for a return to zero or a crossover as the trigger.
Elder's Force Index smooths (close - close[1]) × volume — combines price change with volume to express the force behind every move. - Above zero = bulls in force; below zero = bears in force. - Sharp divergences against price often precede the next day's reversal.
Chaikin Money Flow is the ratio of accumulation-flow volume to total volume over the lookback — bounded around zero, with +0.2 and -0.2 as common signal thresholds. - Sustained CMF 0.2 = strong accumulation. - Sustained CMF < -0.2 = strong distribution; rallies on the failed CMF tend to die fast.
A/D Oscillator subtracts a slow EMA of the A/D line from a fast EMA — converts the cumulative accumulation/distribution into a momentum-style oscillator. - Above zero = buyers winning; below zero = sellers winning. - Crossovers are timing tools for the broader trend.
Bollinger Squeeze Histogram is a momentum proxy = close − SMA(close,20) with the BB-inside-KC squeeze flagged as a grey background. - Positive histogram bars = bullish momentum building. - Negative histogram bars = bearish momentum building. - Grey background = squeeze is on, prepare for release.
Vortex Oscillator plots +VI and -VI — sums of upward vs downward range moves normalised by true range. When +VI crosses -VI up, the trend is bullish; the opposite for bearish. - Crossover of the two VIs is the entry signal. - Raise Length for steadier trend calls. - Pair with an ADX filter to confirm trend strength.
Relative Vigor Index (RVI) compares the close-to-close move against the high-low range. Rises in trends because closes tend to print near the high; falls in downtrends. - Pair with the signal line (its SMA) for crossover signals. - Above 0 = bullish pressure, below 0 = bearish. - Raise Length for smoother readings.
RSI Smoothed runs an extra EMA over RSI so the line is steady but still preserves the original momentum signal. Fewer whipsaws in chop. - Above 70 = overbought, below 30 = oversold. - Raise the smoothing length for ultra-steady output. - Combine with raw RSI for early signals.
MACD Histogram alone — the gap between MACD and its signal line, plotted as columns. Bar colour flips are the momentum-shift alerts. - Positive columns = bullish momentum building. - Shrinking bars = momentum weakening. - Pair with MACD/Signal for full context.
Slow Stochastic smooths %K one extra time before plotting — cleaner and less noisy than fast Stoch. The default in most trading platforms. - Above 80 = overbought, below 20 = oversold. - %K crossing %D in extreme territory is the textbook trigger. - Raise smoothing for steadier signals.
RSI of MACD runs RSI over the MACD histogram so momentum extremes on the MACD become 0-100 RSI levels. Picks up MACD divergences cleanly. - Above 70 = MACD histogram overbought. - Below 30 = MACD histogram oversold. - Raise RSI Length for smoother output.
Chande Momentum Oscillator (CMO) is the difference between sum of ups and sum of downs over the lookback, scaled to ±100. A symmetric, range-bounded momentum oscillator. - Above +50 = overbought, below -50 = oversold. - Zero-line crosses flag momentum shifts. - Raise Length for fewer, steadier signals.
Efficiency Ratio is Kaufman's ratio of net price movement to total path. 100 = perfectly straight, 0 = pure noise. - Above 30 = trending, below 30 = chop. - Raise Length for steadier readings. - Filter all your other systems by it — only take signals when ER 30.
Bear Power is the difference between the period low and an EMA of the close. Negative = bears pushed price below the average close. - Pair with Bull Power for the full Elder Ray setup. - Bear Power falling while Bull Power rises = weakening downtrend. - Plot on the price pane alongside candles.
Bull Power is the difference between the period high and an EMA of the close. Positive = bulls pushed price above the average close. - Pair with Bear Power for the full Elder Ray setup. - Bull Power rising while Bear Power falls = trend confirmation. - Plot on the price pane alongside candles.
Accelerator Oscillator (AC) is the Awesome Oscillator minus its own 5-bar SMA — the change in AO momentum. Histogram that fires before the AO turns. - Crosses of zero lead AO turns by 1-3 bars. - Two same-direction bars of AC confirm the AO momentum. - Pair with AO for a complete Bill Williams momentum stack.
Awesome Oscillator (AO) is the difference between the 5-bar and 34-bar SMA of the mid-price (hlc3). The classic Bill Williams momentum histogram. - Twin peaks above zero = strong bullish momentum. - Twin valleys below zero = strong bearish momentum. - Pair with the Accelerator Oscillator for confirmation.
Ultimate Oscillator blends buying pressure across 7, 14 and 28 bar windows with weights 4:2:1. Resolves the single-window divergence problems of plain RSI/Stochastic. - Above 70 = overbought, below 30 = oversold. - Bullish divergence below 30 is a high-conviction long trigger. - Adjust the three lengths for asset volatility.
True Strength Index (TSI) double-smooths price momentum and divides it by the smoothed absolute momentum, scaled to ±100. Quieter than RSI but with cleaner zero-line crosses. - Above +25 = strong bullish, below -25 = strong bearish. - Zero-line crosses are momentum signals. - Raise Slow for fewer, slower swings.
ConnorsRSI combines three signals — a 2-period RSI on the up/down streak, the percentile rank of daily returns over 100 bars, and a 3-period RSI of price. Composite ranges 0-100. - Above 90 = overbought, below 10 = oversold. - Best on equities and indices; works on liquid crypto pairs. - Raise Rank Lookback for a smoother percentile score.
Money Flow Index (MFI) is a volume-weighted RSI — positive money flow over negative money flow, scaled to 0-100. Picks up accumulation/distribution that RSI alone misses. - Above 80 = overbought, below 20 = oversold. - Divergences with price are high-quality reversal signals. - Raise Length to filter noise in chop.
Momentum is the raw point difference between price N bars ago and the current bar. Same zero-line logic as ROC, but in absolute price units rather than percent. - Best on shares of fixed-point value; for crypto/forex prefer ROC. - Zero-line crosses are momentum signals. - Pair with a price envelope to normalise.
Rate of Change (ROC) measures the percentage change of price over N bars. A zero-line oscillator for trend strength — positive = bullish, negative = bearish. - Zero-line crosses are momentum shifts. - Extreme readings flag short-term blowoffs. - Raise Length for steadier swings; lower it for snappy turns.
Williams %R is the inverse of the Fast Stochastic — closer to -0 = strong, closer to -100 = weak. A clean overbought/oversold oscillator on any market. - Above -20 = overbought, below -80 = oversold. - Pair with a trend filter to avoid fighting a strong move. - Raise Length to slow the response.
